Gender Fluidity

Throughout the styling and Identity unit, my main task was lighting, backdropped, location and the styling of my individual’s models. I decide to use both location and studio for my photoshoots to create similar style of photoshoots as my favourite magazine and photographer, after conducting initial research in the form of mind maps and mood boards and going through range of magazines.  

The motive for my ideas is to focuses on pure beauty in red hairs male and black hair female. The intentions to have the black hair female dressed in blue and red hair male dressed in light pink and both male and female dressed in red at the end is to break the gender stereotypes about the colour pink is a female colour and blue is for male. I want to portray that both genders can wear any colours they want without being judged on their sexuality and breaks the boundaries on their skin’s colours, race, nationality and religions.    

As I did a lot of research on my chosen magazines e.g. Purple Magazine, The Gentle Women magazine and I-D Magazine. Overall, I am very pleased with my progress for this unit, as I have done a handful of test shoots with models which was important to identify the setup and the layout of the lights that I would be using for my photoshoots.    

For my hand in I have printed 6-10 of my best images to published for a magazine double spread layout. Taking into account regarding my retouch, which I increased the exposures, reduce the shadow and highlights to create natural and vintage style, to make the model stands out in both studio and on location.  

Regarding to the styling part of the unit, tilt towards using the colours e.g. red, blue and light pink. I aiming to create a natural look makeup for the photoshoots. I will produce a more variety of angles and included props to create exciting and unique, structure to my images with great posing. I have carefully thought out the composition to pull elements from for my first unit which I have analysed briefly. 

For my next shoots and assignment unit I will focus more on working with a full team of makeup artist, stylist and fashion designer. My weakness for this particular unit is to use a range of lights, soft boxes and set building for my final 6-10 editorial images.
